Guardians of the Tomb and Spirit:
The Sichuan White Jade Tomb Guardian Beast and the King Wen *Bagua* (Eight Trigrams) Mirror are among the most significant funerary objects. The ancients regarded jade artifacts as conduits for bridging Heaven and Earth and for nurturing spiritual energy; thus, a jade guardian beast serves to stand watch over the "Yin Dwelling" (the tomb) and to offer protection to the deceased. As recorded in the *Compendium of Materia Medica* (*Bencao Gangmu*): "The mirror is the very essence of metal and water-bright within, yet dark without. An ancient mirror, much like an ancient sword, possesses a divine nature; it is therefore capable of warding off evil spirits and malevolent forces." Consequently, the *Bagua* mirror has come to symbolize the "expulsion of evil and immunity to misfortune," ensuring that the deceased may rest peacefully beneath the earth, undisturbed by any external forces.
Ritual Objects for Blessing:
Ceremonial funerary items-such as jade pendants and *Ruyi* scepters-typically symbolize auspiciousness, peace, and prosperity. They represent the living's heartfelt wishes for the deceased to continue their journey and life in the afterlife with grace and well-being. A distinction exists, however: While jade pendants are suitable for deceased individuals of all ages, *Ruyi* scepters are traditionally reserved for those who passed away at an advanced age. Families requiring further guidance on this matter are encouraged to consult with a "Ferryman" Life Planner for detailed information.
Provisions for the Afterlife:
Funerary items such as "Five Emperors Coins," symbolic gold ingots (*Wanliang*), and figurines of the "Golden Boy and Jade Girl" serve to symbolize the material provisions and sustenance required by the deceased in the afterlife. The Five Emperors Coins and gold ingots should be arranged in an orderly fashion on either side of the urn, thereby ensuring the deceased enjoys continued financial prosperity. The Golden Boy and Jade Girl figurines should be placed on either side of the urn's photo frame-with the Golden Boy leading the way forward and the Jade Girl serving as a companion on the journey to the West-to ensure the deceased lives a worry-free existence in the next world.
Personal Mementos:
In addition to the standard sets of jade funerary objects, personal jewelry and small decorative items cherished by the deceased during their lifetime may also be included as burial accompaniments. However, families should note that the internal dimensions of burial niches vary significantly across different cemeteries. It is therefore strongly recommended that families consult with their funeral concierge in advance to ensure that any personal mementos are not too large to fit properly within the designated burial space.
